A Monthly Publication of
Knights of Columbus,
April 2005 www.kofcsiena.org
Brother Knights,
Blessed Easter to you all !!!! You might
say, “Worthy Grand Knight, you are a little late in wishing us a Happy Easter
since it was last month”……..but since you are all liturgically wise you know
that Easter lasts 50 days and so it is quite appropriate to continue to pass
that wish along. The Gospel this Sunday
of April is one of my favorite……..”The Road to Emmaus”……..for several
reasons: it reminds us that even though
we don’t think Our Lord is with us, He really is…..ALWAYS……even in as simple a
thing as “walking to Emmaus”. I also
love it because the disciples recognized Jesus “in the breaking of the
bread”…..the Eucharist !!! The same way that we recognize Him every time
we go to Mass at the Consecration…..the true and real presence of Our Lord
Jesus Christ in the appearance of bread and wine. And we recognize Him !!!! Continue my Brothers to experience the joy of
the risen Savior.
As you may know, we are going to
vote on the Slate of Officers for the 2005/06 Columbian year at the May
meeting, immediately following the First Degree. Be sure to attend and lend your support and
make your vote count. The Slate is
listed later on in this newsletter.
Our Council is well on it’s way to
meeting it’s goals for this Columbian year…….Brother Fred McCarthy has done an
AWESOME job in recruiting and getting new members into our ranks…….we are a few
members short though in Insurance members………..did you know that for about $50
year you can get a term life insurance policy ??? You can’t hardly pass that up when you
consider that after a few years the dividends end up paying for the policy
itself………..contact our Insurance Agent Brother Paul Kehoe or contact me and I
can get you in touch with him.
Our email distribution list is
growing and MANY Brothers have commented what a great way it is to receive
updates on a regular basis…….if you are getting this newsletter “snailmail” and would like to get on our distribution, let
me know at hschmal@sbcglobal.net and
I will see that you get put on it.
Some great news about Irishfest ………. We are not only doing corn, corned beef
sandwiches, BBQ Pork sandwiches and pizza again but we are adding FRENCH FRIES and probably CHEESE FRIES
to our menu………our Brothers up at St. Margaret Mary do this for their
fundraisers and say it is easy, cheap and a real money maker……….so make your
plans now to lend a hand during September.
By now your clocks are turned ahead
and your still trying to recover from losing that hour of sleep, but you are
also enjoying the extra daylight after work……..time to get outside and enjoy
God’s creation………….take the time my Brothers to “Stop and smell the
roses”……..it is too easy to miss.
God’s peace and blessings

On Sunday, March 20th which also happened to be Palm Sunday
we held our Quarterly Blood Drive…………even though there were many parishioners
on Easter break, with Brother Jim Winstead’s great
leadership we managed to get 35 pints of blood……thanks to all of those Brothers
that helped out that day make this drive a success. As you know, there is currently NO
substitute for human blood……..only YOU !!! Consider coming in and making a donation at
our
THOMAS
THE
TANK ENGINE
There is a great opportunity to help out HABITAT FOR
HUMANITY even for those of you
that aren’t available to actually help building a house…………or contributing
money……..and that opportunity is to donate your time !!! Every year the Illinois Railroad Museum hosts
“Thomas the Tank Engine” which draws children and families from literally
hundreds of miles around………and the Museum needs HELP with all of those
folks……….and so they make a cash donation to Habitat for Humanity for the hours
that YOU donate in helping out………….there are two weekends available and the
work is EASY and FUN !!!
You might help in the Thomas store, be a crossing guard, ride on a
train, etc……………..and your family (older children) can help out too!! The weekends are August 19, 20 and 21 and the following weekend 27 and 28. Give Hank Schmalen
